Your correspondent is exploring the possibility of going to the eastern bit of Germany for the holidays which brings with it the chance of a Trabi.

Further investigation reveals that you can indeed hire yourself a slice of ostalgie in the boxy form of a Trabant 601 but you pay dearly for the privilege, as in about €80 for a few hours. Should you need a Wartburg, you pay twice that.

So maybe not.

a.) Where are you going?

b.) You can apparently rent electric Trabis on Rügen.

I had the foolish hope that perhaps you were heading to the eastern parts to acquire a Trabi. Given you could likely get a good one for only a few thousand Euros at most...

At my age, two strokes is about all it takes.

Haven’t decided where (or if!) yet.

The though of an electric and environmentally friendly* Trabi makes my head hurt.

* depending on how you make the electrons flow. Lignite isn’t so friendly.

Well, if you want to settle for a four stroke (and why would you?)

Or for a proper two stroke

I’m sure I have no idea what that means.

In the spirit of Oppo, you should buy one. Either you or Borsuq.

You’ve got some very odd looking names there - Kluis, Gingst, Ralswiek, Baabe and lots of -vitzes. Names from before it became Germany?

I’m guessing Wiek is harbour, like -wich in England and -vik in Scandinavia?

Wiek is more like “Bay” AFAIK, but I’m still new to this Northern shit.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

a common German dialect name for bays on the coast of Pomerania

It’s the same as -vik but not -wich which has a completely different origin

So they didn’t lie to me on that one. Maybe those fishheads are trustworthy after all?

Seemingly so.

Interestingly all those -itzes are Slav in origin which is why they’re all in the East.
